Jonas BurgertI found this artist totally by chance. One of his painting was posted in a facebook page.
As soon as I saw it I looked up on google his name.
This is the first painting I saw in the facebook page...
Unfortuntly his webside is written only in german and I can't wake up my friend Francesca to ask her a traslation in the middle of the night :).
I tried to translate with google but it was been very hard. But I could understand some main information.
Jonas Burgert was born in Berlin in the 1969. So he is 43...almost jung if you consider the situation of contemporary art...especially in Italy.
He studied to MA Academy of Fine Arts (UdK), in Berlin and he was tudent of the master class of Prof. Deter Hacker. Jonas reproduses in his painting a lot a strange creatures, a sort of demoniac children but they seem being no dengerous, they look like under the effect of some drogs during a shamanic ritual. The atmosphere was very dark like the most terrible nightmare you can dream, but the extraordinary skill in painting and the use of almost phosphorescent colors give to this nightmare the features of a strange macabre party. The characters are very disturbing, but they're not doing something wrong at all.
His mastery of prospective and anatomy are so great that he can deforme is characters and his scene as he likes using strange point of view.
I don't know exactly why I love his works...but I do.
I asked me why he takes inspiration in from shaman culture and voodoo activities... He has a black cloth hanging in his atelier/warehouse (the size of his canvases are very very big) he has a cloth where he put his "references", a lot of ald pictures takes I don't know. where are illustrated all kind of shamanic rituals and their affects.
He was a bricklayer on bilding site before began one of most famous artists in Berlin...what about shamanism???? I don't know....but...is good! :)
